We had the opportunity to ask Mrs. Diaz, the new Superintendent of Carteret Schools, questions about her new position in the district. We really enjoyed learning a little bit more about her and thought it would be important to share it with all of you! Enjoy.
What is your vision for the Carteret School District?
My Vision
Working together, our district will provide students a first rate educational experience that includes high quality teachers, programs and services. Nothing will be too costly, too time consuming or too challenging when it comes to delivering on that promise.
District Vision
Carteret Public Schools believes in inspiring and empowering our students to become the innovative leaders of tomorrow. We are committed to preparing our students to be competitive, socially conscious and productive members of society who lead meaningful lives. Drawing on our cultural richness, grit, and unparalleled desire to persevere, we will continue to embrace challenges, so we can develop leaders who will shape the world.
Since you have become Superintendent, what has been the most challenging aspect of your job?
One of the most challenging aspects about this job is making everyone “happy.” You are forced to make tough decisions that affect the lives of human beings. Sometimes, there is no right answer. It is merely a difficult choice that must be made. You weigh the pros and cons and reach out for different perspectives in order to make the most informed decision possible.
At the end of the day, I choose to make decisions in the best interest of my students and my school community. They may not always be popular, but they will be choices I can firmly stand behind.
If you could give one piece of advice to the CHS students, what would it be?
Find something you’re passionate about and let that serve as motivation to keep going. You will only get out of your school experience what you put in, so invest yourself in something meaningful to you. You never know where it might lead you.
I was fortunate enough to have had the most incredible experience as the singer in the Carteret High School show band, Parental Guidance. I had found my niche. That led to traveling across the country, interactions with celebrities, recording studios and much more. Oddly enough, I chose to stay with education, but I believe those worldly experiences helped mold me into the leader I am today.
